Equipment

  • High-speed blender - e.g., Vitamix, Blendtec, or NutriBullet
  • Measuring cups - For both dry and liquid ingredients
  • Measuring spoons
  • Smoothie cups or glasses - For serving
  • Spatula or blender scraper - For scraping down the sides

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen raspberries - 240g, no need to thaw
  • 1 medium ripe banana - about 120g or 4 oz, broken into chunks, with brown spots on the skin for best sweetness
  • 3/4 cup plain or vanilla Greek yogurt - 180g
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice - 120ml, dairy, almond, oat, or coconut
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup - adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract - optional but recommended
  • 4 cubes ice cubes - optional, for a colder/thicker smoothie

Optional Garnishes

  • fresh raspberries - for the rim
  • banana slice - for garnish
  • honey - drizzle on top
  • fresh mint sprigs - for garnish

Instructions

  • Measure 2 cups of frozen raspberries, break the ripe banana into chunks, measure the yogurt, milk, honey, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the milk into the blender first, then add the yogurt, banana chunks, frozen raspberries, honey, and vanilla extract. Add ice cubes if desired.
  • Secure the lid and blend on low for 10-15 seconds, then increase to high and blend for 45-60 seconds until completely smooth. Scrape down the sides if needed and blend again briefly.
  • Taste and adjust sweetness with more honey if needed, or a squeeze of lemon juice if too sweet. Add more milk to thin or more ice to thicken.
  • Pour into glasses and serve immediately, garnished with fresh raspberries, a banana slice, a honey drizzle, or a mint sprig.

Notes

  • Banana ripeness is key: Use a banana with brown spots for maximum sweetness and creaminess. Underripe bananas will make the smoothie starchy.
  • Frozen vs. fresh berries: Frozen raspberries are essential for the thick, frosty texture. If using fresh, add 1 cup of ice to compensate.
  • Layering order matters: Always put liquid in the blender first to help the blades move freely and prevent them from getting stuck with frozen fruit.
  • Dairy-Free Version: Simply swap the Greek yogurt for your favorite coconut or soy yogurt and use a plant-based milk like oat or almond.
  • Add Greens: You can add a large handful of fresh spinach or kale without changing the flavor; the raspberries will mask any green color.
  • Make it a Protein Shake: Add one scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder for a post-workout boost.
  • Storage: This smoothie is best enjoyed fresh. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Shake or re-blend before drinking.
  • Freeze for Later: Pour leftovers into ice cube trays and freeze. Blend the frozen cubes with a splash of milk for a quick smoothie later.
