Equipment

  • High-speed blender - Such as Vitamix, Ninja, or similar
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Smoothie cups or mason jars - For serving
  • Cutting board and knife - If slicing fresh banana
  • Rubber spatula - For scraping down the blender
  • Tamper tool - Optional, for thick smoothie bowl versions

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen pink dragon fruit - 170g, cubes or 1 frozen pitaya puree packet (3.5 oz / 100g)
  • 1 medium ripe banana - about 120g, sliced and frozen
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango chunks - 85g
  • 3/4 cup coconut milk - 180ml, from a carton not a can, for a lighter consistency, or unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks - 85g
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds - optional, for extra fiber and omega-3s
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon honey - 1-2 teaspoons or agave syrup, optional, to taste

For Serving (Optional Toppings)

  • fresh dragon fruit slices - for garnish
  • chia seeds - for sprinkling
  • sliced kiwi - for topping
  • coconut flakes - for topping
  • granola - for topping smoothie bowls

Instructions

  • If using fresh dragon fruit, scoop out the flesh and freeze for 2-3 hours until solid. If using frozen pitaya cubes or a puree packet, remove from freezer and let sit for 1-2 minutes to slightly thaw.
  • Pour 3/4 cup of coconut milk or almond milk into the blender first to create a vortex that pulls the frozen ingredients toward the blades.
  • Add the frozen dragon fruit, frozen banana slices, frozen mango chunks, and frozen pineapple chunks to the blender in that order.
  • Add chia seeds (if using), fresh lime juice, and honey or agave syrup (if desired) to the blender.
  • Secure the lid tightly and blend on low speed, gradually increasing to high. Blend for 45-60 seconds until completely smooth and creamy.
  • Stop the blender, scrape down the sides with a spatula, and blend for another 15-20 seconds until the texture is fully uniform. Add more liquid if too thick, or more frozen fruit if too thin.
  • Taste the smoothie and adjust sweetness or acidity with additional honey or lime juice if needed. Pour into serving glasses immediately.
  • Top with fresh dragon fruit slices, chia seeds, sliced kiwi, coconut flakes, or granola for added texture and visual appeal. Serve right away.

Notes

  • Freeze your banana in advance: Use ripe bananas that are starting to spot for the sweetest flavor. Peel, slice, and freeze in a single layer before transferring to a bag.
  • Don't over-add liquid: Start with less liquid than you think you need. It's much easier to add more if the smoothie is too thick than to fix a watery smoothie.
  • Use a powerful blender: High-speed blenders ensure a completely smooth texture without icy chunks. If using a basic blender, let frozen fruit sit out for 3-5 minutes before blending.
  • Blend in pulses first: Use the pulse function a few times at the start to break up large chunks before running the blender continuously on high.
  • Make smoothie packs: Pre-portion all frozen fruit for one smoothie into individual freezer bags. In the morning, just dump in the blender, add liquid, and blend.
  • For a smoothie bowl: Use half the liquid (about 1/2 cup) and blend until very thick. Pour into a bowl and top with granola, fresh fruit, and a drizzle of honey.
  • Make it a protein smoothie: Add one scoop of vanilla protein powder or unflavored collagen peptides for a post-workout boost.
  • Substitute the milk: Any plant-based milk works well—oat milk adds creaminess, while coconut milk gives the most tropical flavor. For an ultra-creamy version, use full-fat canned coconut milk.
  • Storage: Smoothies are best enjoyed fresh. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours—stir or shake before drinking and add a splash of liquid if needed.
  • Freeze into popsicles: Pour leftover smoothie into popsicle molds and freeze for 4-6 hours for a refreshing frozen treat.
