Chill your glass by placing it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes, or fill with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.
Cut a lime in half crosswise and squeeze 0.5 oz of fresh juice using a citrus juicer or reamer, removing any seeds. Cut a thin wheel or strip of peel for garnish.
If rimming the glass, pour a thin layer of sugar onto a small plate, moisten the rim with a lime wedge, and gently press it into the sugar to coat evenly.
Fill your cocktail shaker about two-thirds full with fresh ice cubes.
Using a jigger, measure and pour all ingredients into the shaker over the ice: 1.5 oz citrus vodka, 1 oz Cointreau, 1 oz cranberry juice, and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice.
Seal the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the outside feels very cold and frosts slightly.
Remove the chilled glass from the freezer, dump any ice water, and strain the cocktail into the glass in a single smooth pour.
Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim or a twisted strip of lime peel to express the oils, and serve immediately while ice-cold.
